The title of our group manufacturing project is bench-type milling machine, improvements are needed to make based on the original milling machine and the product of last year students. The handling of this project included different stages such as design, planning, costing, manufacture and assembling of components, testing, documentation, and final evaluation.
CATIA is particularly used in our design stage for the designing of our new version milling machine. In the manufacturing process, different types of machines, such as milling machine, turning machine, grinding machine, etc. are used. For calibration, coordinate measuring machine is used for checking the angle between planes.
Within this four weeks time, different parts of the milling machine are machined and assembled. A new version of milling machine is produced with a better appearance and more safety guards are provided. However, there are still improvements needed to be made. This project provided us with a valuable experience not only in technical skills but also in the development of personal and professional qualities such as leaderships, communication skills and co-ordination skills which are benefits to our future career.
