Conceptual Design 1

Design 3a

From the above picture, you can see that the design is just like a windmill. The fan and the bracket are connected by the rotary axis. Once the bread is put onto the bracket, the whole system starts rotate automatically such that one side of each bread is facing to the fan.  After being heated, the bracket rotates 180 degree and the unheated side will be faced to the fan.
Limitations: Eight fans should be needed in order to make an even brownness, but it is too expensive. Also, the mechanism is quite difficult to carry out. Therefore, this design is banned.


Conceptual Design 2

In our conceptual design is used to explore the idea or concept which is the most important aspect of the work. When we use a conceptual form of the design, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes our final design.

Design 2

This idea can be performed as a robot toaster; we have just designed as a face style in the front view of the toaster.

At the right side of the figure, you may see that we are going to toast the bread side by side. At the top of the toaster, the right side of the bread is done. Afterwards, another side is also done. This procedure can use the gravity to move the bread from upward to downward. We capture the design and take reference at our canteen. But our design is advanced mode.
On the other hand, it can toast the bread continuously. So those, the family can enjoy the toast one by one. The bread will slide down to the lower level. And the user can take it at the mouth of the robot.

However, there are some limitations behind our design; the bulky shape is not user friendly in the family. Thus, some user may not buy because of the bulky shape. There is also too much fans are needed and the design is a bit clumsy and bulky. Also, the mechanism is not easy to implement. So this design is banned. In order to reduce the place in home on the 21st century, this product is not allowed to launch to the market. The clumsy size is going to be failure of our design. Also, there are too many fans at the toaster which will afford too many current of the toaster and waste electricity.


Conceptual Design 3

Design 1

There are two sets of fans, two on each side and placed at two sides of the toaster, to speed up the circulation of air flow. The heat can be blown to each side of the bread.
Limitations: This design is too ideal, whether the heat can be blown to each side of the bread is unknown and we cannot prove this theory by simple experiment. So this design is banned.

Before the development of the electric toaster, sliced bread was toasted by placing it in a metal frame and holding it over a fire or by holding it near to a fire using a long-handled fork. Simple utensils for toasting bread over open flames go back at least 200 years, and earlier people simply speared bread with a stick or knife and held it over a fire.

In this design, we add some axial fans which a rotating arrangement of vanes or blades is consisted which act on the air. Usually it is contained within some form of housing or case. This may direct the airflow or increase safety by preventing objects from contacting the fan blades. Also, the airflow may become smoother.  Most fans are powered by electric motors, but other sources of power may be used, including hydraulic motors and internal combustion engines.

Fans produce air flows with high volume and low pressure, as opposed to compressors which produce high pressures at a comparatively low volume. A fan blade will often rotate when exposed to an air stream, and devices that take advantage of this, such as anemometers and wind turbines, often have designs similar to that of a fan.

The axial-flow fans have blades that force air to move parallel to the shaft about which the blades rotate. We design the fans are located in the middle of the toaster in order to make the airflow be regular and recycling. Axial fans blow air along the axis of the fan, linearly, hence their name. This type of fan is used in a wide variety of applications, ranging from small cooling fans for electronics to the giant fans used in wind tunnels.

As we mentioned about, the axial fans are placed at the two sides of the toaster so that the heat is blown to each side of the bread. We are going to make good use of the heat air. We want to recycle the heat air to the toaster.
Undoubtedly, there are some limitations; our using procedure is too ideal that we cannot be sure that our design is allowed for us to do so. Some energy will lose at the top of the toaster. In order to take reference of our conceptual design, we are going to do some testing model by according to those two designs.

Axial fans are added on both sides of the top of the toaster to circulate the air flow.

Limitations: Energy is lost as it cannot be trapped. So it induces us to make a cover in our final design.
